Basin Electric Power Station

Basin Electric Power Station

Location: Laramie River, Wyoming
Industry: Power Generation

Project Overview

Incorp Industries was contracted with a national scope environmental contractor to provide major scaffolding services, along with insulation and lagging removal and replacement, for their 1,700 MW power station. This plant, constructed in 1980 at a cost of $1.6 billion, faced a plant-wide outage necessitating immediate intervention to ensure continuous operation.

Objective

The project involved providing scaffolding and insulation services for a major precipitator rebuild, covering the precipitator walls, ducts, and pants leg—areas in which we specialize. Having previously collaborated with us and being satisfied with the quality and safety of our projects, they entrusted us with this time-sensitive project.

Application

Incorp’s role was pivotal in the execution of the project, which involved the installation of scaffolding and the application of mineral wool insulation with heavy-gauge aluminum lagging. Utilizing Navisworks for precise planning, we estimated the project to require approximately 20,000 person-hours. A significant challenge was the limited availability of detailed drawings due to the unit’s age. This required our team to rely heavily on field measurements and on-the-spot adjustments, demonstrating our adaptability and expertise in managing older infrastructure projects.
