Georgia Pacific Mill Modernization

Location: Perdue Hill, Alabama
Industry: Pulp & Paper

Project Overview

Georgia-Pacific selected Incorp Industries to deliver scaffolding and insulation services for a steam-plant modernization at a high-capacity cellulose mill facility in Alabama, serving the North American pulp and paper market. Incorp is leading efforts to stabilize the mill’s high-pressure steam header through the installation of a new natural gas-fired package boiler rated at 250,000 pph delivering 1,200 psig, 900°F steam. The new unit replaces an aging 150,000 pph power boiler and eliminates the need for rental boilers.

Objective

Incorp was contracted to deliver turnkey scaffolding and insulation services aligned to heat conservation, personnel protection, and safe access for installation and commissioning. The scope includes insulation for 2,300 linear feet (LF) of piping and over 12,000 square feet (SF) of equipment and ductwork, with work executed on a shutdown basis to avoid mill downtime. Parallel objectives include tight coordination with EPC stakeholders, site safety requirements, and schedule milestones throughout demolition, setting, tie-ins, and start-up.

Application

Incorp is providing integrated scaffolding access across boiler pressure parts, ductwork, and balance-of-plant tie-ins, sequencing builds to match lift plans and outage windows. Insulation selections and jacketing systems are specified for thermal performance, personnel protection, and durability around high-temperature components and flanged connections. The broader project scope also includes installation of the RENTECH Package Boiler, ZEECO Burner & Burner Skids, and Forced Draft Fan. Additional systems include Blowdown System, Dampers and Expansion Joints, New Electrical Room, Access Platforms, Structural Steel, CEMS Cabinet and Duct Test Ports, and Related Ancillary Equipment. Field execution is guided by Incorp’s digital labor forecasting and estimating tools to improve planning accuracy and material readiness across shifts and crews.

Result

Incorp’s scope is progressing in line with outage targets and safety expectations through close coordination with EPC construction and commissioning teams. The project ensures reliable high-pressure steam supply, improved stability, and retirement of legacy equipment while avoiding downtime at the mill, underscoring Incorp’s trusted relationships and expertise in complex shutdown scaffolding and insulation.
