AMES Power Plant

Location: Ames, Iowa
Industry: Power Generation

Project Overview

AMES Power, a prominent player in the power generation and distribution field, embarked on a challenging EH&S project to update the insulation and lagging of an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP). The unit was built in 1978 and the insulation and lagging were significantly out of date. The project was carried out in Ames, Iowa, in collaboration with Incorp Industries.

Objective

The primary task was the demolition, removal, and disposal of the existing insulation and lagging system, including the inlet and outlet ductwork of the ESP. This challenging project involved interpreting the original 1978 drawings, cleaning, and preparing the ductwork and ESP surfaces to install a new insulation and lagging system. With Incorp’s expertise, the goal was to design, procure, and install a new generation insulation and lagging system to replace the dated one.

Application

Incorp’s role was pivotal in this project, involving the erection of scaffolding that reached approximately 300 feet in height, covering an area of about 20,000 SF. The insulation process utilized top-tier thermal insulation materials.

Result

Despite the challenges presented by the age of the unit and outdated drawings, Incorp worked closely with the engineers to decipher the old plans and develop a new, more efficient insulation and lagging system, ensuring unit protection, efficiency, and pollution control. The partnership between Incorp and AMES Power led to a successful project, executed within budget and timeframe.
